Graduate & Student Engineers

Each year Cut & Fill take on and train Apprentices, appoint Graduate Engineers and engage Student Engineers all with the goal of enriching the competency of the next generation of civil engineering providers and creating a pipeline of talent for our business's future..

Industry Based Learning Program (IBL)- a partnership with University.

Cut & Fill takes a proactive approach to the training and development of its Graduate Engineers by engaging them while they are still undergraduates in an IBL partnership with Swinburne University. The provision of IBL Placements by Cut & Fill is an investment in our future and provides us with the satisfaction of knowing we are making an ongoing contribution to ensuring engineering graduates have a greater understanding of the world of work, and that we have supported the training of professionals in our field. During their third and fourth years of their engineering degree, IBL students join our company for a period of twelve months. As a Cut & Fill IBL Engineer, our program ensures our students work in at least two areas of the business, assisting with current workloads and where required taking on 'special projects' and or delivering process improvements or recommendations.

All our engineering graduates are introduced to our business and the civil construction industry over a period of 2 to 3 years. During that time, graduates undergo a thorough induction process and have the opportunity to work across the business in the engineering, construction and systems divisions. This structure provides a solid foundation for our graduates in the business of civil engineering contracting. The first few years for a student or graduate engineer would involve handling tasks and responsibilities which may include:

Engineering Division:
  • Assist in the preparation, collation, content and format of the company's tender submissions to prospective and existing clients.
  • Provide assistance in the initial project planning and purchasing requirements of projects
  • Assist the division in maintaining the accuracy of marketing material, including company brochures and the website.
Construction Division:
  • Assist with correct contract administration, with exposure to claims & variations requirements.
  • Assist Project Engineers in the construction operations planning and delivery.
  • Assist in field engineering requirements

Systems Division:
  • Examine the QA documentation for various civil projects and assist in roll out to project teams.
  • Assist in the collating, indexing and recording of site / company QA records.
  • Maintain lot registers, progress reports and ensure necessary sign offs to QA standards.
