Leakes Road Interchange, Victoria

Part of the Deer Park Bypass, West of Melbourne, this design and construction contract involved the construction of a grade separated full interchange at Leakes Road. The new interchange included construction of a two-lane bridge over the freeway and ramps for full access to and from the freeway in both directions – a classic diamond format.

Works also included 1.4km of reconstruction of existing carriage way. The Western Highway is the principal road link between Melbourne and Adelaide and at Deer Park carries over 70,000 vehicles per day with 10 per cent of these being heavy vehicles. Cut & Fill’s experience project management team, managed construction without any freeway closures and with only a combined 24 hours of detours. Freeway detours were only required on two separate nights to allow cranes to be positioned on the freeway to lift the bridge beams. The bridge’s centre pier was constructed during full traffic flows in a construction island in the roadway.
